David Bowie has died at the 69. The music legend had been battling cancer for the past 18 months and despite only releasing his latest album, Blackstar, last week it has now been confirmed that the man behind Ziggie Zardust and the Thin White Duke has passed away.
A statement on his official website revealed Bowie's death early on Monday morning.
David Bowie died peacefully today surrounded by his family after a courageous 18 month battle with cancer. While many of you will share in this loss, we ask that you respect the family’s privacy during their time of grief.
Bowie's son, Duncan Jones has also confirmed the news.
Very sorry and sad to say it's true. I'll be offline for a while. Love to all. pic.twitter.com/Kh2fq3tf9m

Bowie's continued influence on fellow artists and fans both young and old is testament to a musician who was ground breaking to say the least.
