So Ellie Gouldling made an excellent point about how female artists are being defined by the people there supposedly dating, only be to completely ignored due to the fact she had earlier confirmed she'd gone on a few dates with Niall Horan.
While speaking to UK magazine Elle, Goulding said:
I find it so frustrating that female musicians are constantly defined by the men they have or haven't dated. It's something I've talked about with Taylor [Swift] a lot. She definitely feels that. She gets bothered by it."
It's like, you can be a great artist, you can write great songs, but the thing that everyone is going to talk about is some relationship they think you have had or not had. It's definitely something we both think happens to female artists over male artists.
You might think that some people would think to themselves 'You know what? She's right. Let's talk about that.' But of course that's not what happened. A quick Google search for 'Ellie Goulding Niall Horan' will show anyone what actually grabbed the headlines.
The worst thing is, many of these articles include the quotes from her about female musicians being defined by who they're dating. So they read her point and then chose to completely pay no heed and continue on. Such nonsense.
