You might know him as ferocious, psychopathic killer Ian Doyle from Criminal Minds. You may remember him as IRA-turned-Irish Kings member Galen O'Shay, who was involved in weapons trafficking with SAMCRO and proved one of the main antagonists in Sons of Anarchy Season 6.
You can currently watch him on True Detective, where he plays badass Russian gangster Osip Agranov, who we saw stare down Vince Vaughn's character in the first episode of the new season.
But do you remember him as Conor from Glenroe? Yes, Conor Sheehy. Yes, the guy Biddy had an affair with. It's him.
From quarrels with Miley in Wicklow to eyeballing Vince Vaughn's Frank Semyon in Los Angeles. From Glenroe to arguably the biggest television show in the world. It's been a decent two decades for Tralee's Timothy V Murphy.
Ovation Award-winning star of stage and screen, Murphy's 2011 role on Criminal Minds in particular drew critical acclaim, with the show's own Executive Producer Erica Messer saying,
Ian Doyle, thanks to Timothy Murphy, was probably the best bad guy we’ve ever had.
It's hard to argue with - Doyle properly gave us the creeps.
Murphy’s film credits include: The Lone Ranger, The Road To Paloma, Appaloosa, National Treasure: Book of Secrets, and dozens of other features. Add to these his award-winning work on stage, not least in Martin McDonagh’s Beauty Queen of Leenanne, and the award-winning Stones In His Pockets, a play written specifically for Murphy and Conleth Hill by Marie Jones, and Murphy's superb CV only begins to take shape.
He also rather aptly starred - given his characters' histories as some of the baddest men on tv - in the video for Noel Gallagher's absolute belter of a tune, 'If I Had A Gun.'
The Oakpark, Tralee native has been signed on for multiple episodes of True Detective Season 2, with rumours that his character will feature throughout the series.
We just can't wait for his first encounter with fellow Irishman Colin Farrell. There's something about those Kerry vs Dublin clashes, not to mention the age-old Glenroe vs Ballykissangel rivalry.
For what it's worth, Murphy rides a Harley Davidson in real life, and allegedly once wrestled an alligator on the set of National Treasure.
Good luck, Faz.
