Who's chopping onions, lads?
Doodlebug is an orphaned joey from New South Wales, Australia.
An advisor to a Tasmanian senator, Tim Beshara has spent most of his professional life working on Australian environmental issues. His mother, Gillian Abbott, is also a wildlife conservationist.
When Gillian sent Tim an image of Doodlebug and his new pal from her property in NSW, and Tim tweeted it, it went global. It's not hard to see why:
My mum (a wildlife-carer) sent me this. Showing the value of a good hug, especially for an orphaned wallaby. #wildoz pic.twitter.com/WuSeDrZ16s

Goddammit, that's adorable. I need some bubble wrap or something.
According to Mr. Beshara, his mother has discovered that orphaned animals responded well to teddy bears that she hangs around the yard:
They seem to respond to the toys much in the same way as a toddler. They treat it as a companion.
Apparently a teddy on a string makes for a good companion. Who would have thought?
The picture has been covered by media as far away from Tim as Brazil, and even featured on television across the United States.
