He's starred as a mental pirate, a demon barber and a zany gonzo journalist, but this may be Johnny Depp's greatest feat of all.
Comedy website Funny or Die on Wednesday began streaming a 50-minute comedy that sees Depp portraying world-renowned arsehole and (still, incredibly) viable presidential hopeful Donald Trump, in a hilarious faux-biopic which you can watch in full when you scroll below.
It was a crazy, completely nuts idea that somehow we pulled off,
said Adam McKay, a co-founder of Funny or Die, which also counts Will Ferrell and Judd Apatow as principal partners and produces exclusive material that often features well-known stars.
McKay, the director of The Big Short, which is a contender for best picture at this year's Oscars, added that the site’s newest skewering of Mr. Trump will “with any luck” annoy the presidential hopeful.
The film, which borrows its name from Trump’s 1987 best-selling book, also stars director Ron Howard (as himself), Saturday Night Live actress Michaela Watkins (as Ivana Trump), comedian Patton Oswalt (as Merv Griffin) and others. It was shot over four days in December.
Depp, who portrayed James 'Whitey' Bulger in last year’s Black Mass, reportedly brought a team of makeup artists to transform himself into the bombastic real estate mogul.
The plan was to move really fast because we thought Trump would go away, as least as a presidential candidate,
Funny or Die Editor-in-Chief Owen Burke told the New York Times.
When he bizarrely didn’t go away, we had a little more time.
