The Real Reason Bus Seats Have A Hideous Pattern

If you have ever questioned whether you are in a time warp, transported back to the 1980's every time you get on the bus for your daily commute and see the awful seat covers, you will want to keep reading.

There's a reason behind the retro styled seats other than the designers just having no taste or Dublin Bus being too miserly to do up the bus. The pattern that hurts your eyes on a daily basis is designed, on purpose, to hide how gross and dirty the seats are.

The bright colours and mind-boggling patterns distract our eyes from all the caked in dirt and grime on the seats where we place our bums. It makes sense, if you think about it that the seats are filthy, sure who knows what individual was sitting on the seat before you and what they were eating, but we were happy in our blissful ignorance.

To the commuters eye, it appears relatively clean, or as clean as public transport can be, but there is actually various types of nasty stuff that would only be seen on plain patterned seat covers.

In short, it's an illusion, and would probably have been best kept that way because once you see this video, chances are you won't want to sit on a bus seat any time soon.
