To describe Averil Power's comments about some aspects of the Fianna Fáil party, upon her resignation, as 'cutting' would be an understatement; particularly with regard to her critique of the party's 'cynical and cowardly approach to the marriage referendum.'
While Fianna Fáil officially backed a Yes vote, Power claimed that she was the only TD or senator who did a 'proper canvass' in their own constituency, and one would wonder if the likes of these rogue posters, outside Bailieborough in Co Cavan, are an example of the attitude which drove her to leave the party.

These posters were obviously not approved by the party but perhaps they served as another example to Power that her liberal views needed to find a new home.
