Fine Gael councillor Sharon Tolan received a horrible response to a letter she sent to 400 Fine Gael party members in Louth-East Meath, asking for their support in her bid to run in the next general election.
Tolan, who was a big advocate of yes vote in the recent marriage referendum, was sent an anonymous reply, which read:
Get the queers to vote for you. Fine Gael will not get our votes.
It's not the first time she's been sent abuse over her stance on gay marriage, as thejournal.ie reveal, but the fact that it was from someone who was a member of the party has particularly hurt. She told The Journal:
I was shocked at the incredibly toxic tone of the message, and to be honest this is totally at odds with the response I have received in general to my canvass.
There's gobshites everywhere I suppose.
