Shirtless Butcher Fined £115 For Challenging People To A Fight In Magherafelt

This is one of the last headlines I get the chance to write this year but perhaps one of the funniest.

The Magherfelt Magistrates Court in Co Derry fined a man £115 this week after the 18-year-old butcher challenged people to a fight and exchanged verbals with police.

Sean Kelly pleaded guilty to the charge of disorderly behaviour, with the prosecuting lawyer telling the court of how he clashed with police on the night in question. Kelly is reported to have a 'leaned into an officer's face' before refusing to give his details upon being arrested.

The report in the Mid-Ulster Mail contains one of my favourite last sentences in an article. In truth there is no way I could better it so I will close with the quote:

'Kelly, who was not professionally represented, said that the drink had got the better of him.'
