An Irishwoman, believed to be from Robinstown in Co Meath, has been killed in a terrorist attack in Tunisia today.
At least 28 people have died following the attack on Sousse beach, with one gunman being shot dead while another is still being pursued by police. The attack took place between two large hotels and it is thought that the majority of those killed were foreigners.
Meath TD Ray Butler's constituency office has confirmed that the husband of the murdered Irishwoman has sought support from the Department of Foreign Affairs, and anyone else who has concerns over a family member can contact them on 01-4082000. The department said in a statement:
We are aware of Irish citizens in Sousse but we are not aware that any Irish citizens have come to harm. Given the number of Irish holiday makers in Tunisia we have opened a dedicated consular support line as a precautionary measure.
Reports are circulating that the second gunman has been caught but nothing is confirmed.
