Having just come across this event for the very first time, you might forgive us for failing to find the words to do it justice. The Malibu World Disco Dancing Championships 1983 which features a young man by the name of Kieran Ward from Carrickmacross in Co.Monaghan.
Kieran can be seen 13minutes into the following video and he does the nation proud with a disco dancing effort that can only be matched by a seriously silvery outfit, reportedly made by his dad. The whole spectacle becomes hypnotizing as we the audience are subjected to the same song over and over, but it's only in the interest of fairness for the competition.
Speaking about fairness, it's clear that Frankie Johnson Junior, the local representative has come with his own support, a crowd that would probably double the entire population of Kieran Ward's Carrickmacross. How and ever, the disco dancing is what remains at the heart of all this and what matters most. Contestants have obviously come from near and far, disco dancing their way through the Iron Curtain and war torn Africa to get to the Malibu finals.
