Travel magazine Lonely Planet has published a ranking of the best destinations in Europe for family holidays. One Irish county has made the grade and finds itself in second place.
The midlands is snubbed again as Kerry lands the spot. Naturally, there will be outrage in Kerry at only finishing second.
In an effort to head off the protests emanating from the south-west, Lonely Planet have written a brief snippet of praise for the county.
Mysterious islands off a craggy coastline; mist-wreathed mountains and lakes; castles, abbeys and other ruins to explore… no wonder County Kerry appeals to the imagination of travellers of all ages.
The Great Blasket Islands, Killarney National Park, Rosbeigh beach, Dingle Harbour and of course Fungi got name-checked.
Kent in England took the top spot.
