We look at the 30 second trailer for True Detective and try to decipher what exactly is going on. From plotlines to character development we think one can tell quite a lot from the half a minute of footage.
Read on to find out more!
THE PLOT
Theory #1 - Drama
The most plausible of our plotline theories and it comes early in the trailer. Farrell, Kitsch and McAdams are trying to solve some terrible goings-on in a motorcycle factory.
Theory #2 - Comedy
What are they looking at it? Maybe it's a baby? Or then again maybe it's a dead body ... A dead baby body. Child murder or lighthearted comedy - this could go either way.
Theory #3 - Pantomime
Maybe TD is going to be more like a pantomime this season. Here Vince Vaughn is planning to cover Farrell in cement, as the crowd yells 'They're behind you!' at Colin.
Will he notice in time? We'll have to wait until 21 June to find out.
Theory #4 - Real life situations
With the popularity of reality tv shows maybe True Detective producers decided that last year's plot was a little too out there. My guess is that we'll see a lot more realistic crimes this season.
Spoiler alert!
You've heard it here first.
THE CHARACTERS
Colin Farrell is two people
Right, so to the obvious thing first. It's quite clear from the trailer that Colin Farrell is two people in this season's TD. It would seem that some of the time he's just your normal, run-of-the-mill guy.
But...
His alter ego is a moustache-wearing, no-bullshit-taking, judgement-welcoming cop!
Why does Farrell have the disguise? Time will tell but my money is on it being some sort of FIFA related scam. #twobankaccounts.
Rachel McAdams
Rachel McAdams looks angry for pretty much the entire trailer. When she's not running around with a gun, she's just looking furiously into the distance. Our verdict?...
Who is Backwards Noel? I can't wait to find out.
Taylor Kitsch
We all know Kitsch best from his Tim Riggins character in Friday Night Lights. Going by the trailer it would seem his new persona is just a Tim Riggins that shows more emotion.
Observe:
A new character?
Did you spot him? We certainly did:
MISCELLANEOUS
No one - especially Vince - expected him to show up!
