Dara Ó Briain has interviewed his hero, theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking, as part of an upcoming BBC documentary.
Ó Briain - who holds a degree in mathematics and theoretical physics himself - is said to 'gain a unique and personal insight into the man behind the bright lights and the equations.'
The Wicklow comic will accompany Hawking during his daily routines and chat to him about everything from his own personal backstory, which recently birthed an Oscar-winning portrayal by Eddie Redmayne in The Theory of Everything, to what the future of quantum physics might hold for humankind.
The one leaked exchange from the documentary is rather morbid but typically self-exploratory, with Hawking telling Ó Briain that, were he in enough pain or felt he had nothing more to give, he would consider euthanasia:
To keep someone alive against their wishes is the ultimate indignity.
I would consider assisted suicide only if I were in great pain or felt I had nothing more to contribute but was just a burden to those around me.
But I’m damned if I’m going to die before I have unravelled more of the universe.
It promises to be a fascinating insight into one of the greatest minds in human history. The documentary does not currently have a release date but will air on BBC One later this year.
