The Secret Tim Riggins True Detective Storyline: Episode 3

The Secret Tim Riggins True Detective Storyline: Episode 3

Given the viewing stats on this weekly feature it seems more and more of you are copping on to the fact that Paul Woodrugh in True Detective is actually Tim Riggins' alter ego.

For those of you who aren't privy to our conspiracy theory yet, you can check out our investigation into episode one here and episode two here, before going any further.

So how has everyone's favourite Friday Night Lights character got on this week? Is he any closer to realising his dream of returning to Dillon? Let's delve deeper.

A former Dillon Lion meets with Tim

This week's episode highlights the fact that one man know's Woodrugh's secret. He knows he's actually Tim Riggins, and how does he know that? We can only presume that he was part of a Dillon Lions team coached by Riggins after Eric Taylor left.

Although the viewer never learns for sure, we think it's safe to assume Riggins took over as head coach at some stage. Plus his conversation with the old friend on this week's TD episode all but confirms it.

'You ever miss it?' he asks Woodrugh, before painting a well known picture of Dillon:

I keep thinking about the village. Nice people man. Mountains ... I remember thinking I could have just stayed there. Just forget finding the squad [His college team obviously].

That was the last time shit felt right for me, bro.

Riggins then says 'You mean combat?' Clearly referring to that feeling as a lineback when you go into a game of American football. Things quickly turn sour however when the former Lions player reveals too much and Tim thinks someone might be listening.

Tim loses the mind

By the end of the epsiode things go from bad to worse, as Tim roams the streets showing random people photos of Dillon. Of course no one has any interest.

Tim reminded of home yet again?

After going to a nightclub with a very friendly stranger he met on the street, Tim is quickly reminded of his sister-in-law's stripclub in Dillon, due to all the scantly clad women wandering this new establishment.

It's quite clear that he's struggling with memories of home as he starts to throw alcohol down like no tomorrow in order to quell the pain.

So what have we learned from this week's episode? That Tim is no still no closer to getting home but at least he's making friends. Like that nice chap who helped him find the club and the Eastern European woman who's married to the mayor. She seemed a jovial enough character.

By the way the chap on the street saw through Tim's facade straight away, pointing out the 'angsty cop drama you're rolling'. Will Tim confide in him? We'll have to wait until next week to find out.
